I'm Out Of Service.
Actually- my laptop is.

Tuesday night, I got the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH for the umpteenth time.
In my fit of rage... I jumped on apple.com and ordered a mac book pro.
(ok... I actually waited a day or two and actually thought the purchase through)
The scheduled delivery is a couple of weeks away- so I'm taking a blogging hiatus.

Chances are, I won't be commenting a lot on blogs, because I'll either be a) reading them on my phone or b) reading them on my teeny-tiny lunch break.

Also, the emails from me will be pretty slow too.
Since I don't answer emails at work- and I don't like sitting up in the guest room for too long (laptop-edness has spoiled me).

So for the next couple of weeks, I'm not ignoring you... I'm just a little OOS.

I'll miss you!
but I'm hoping this will get me a lot of knitting time!

Pet Peeve #197

When people use made up words to sound smarter.

My favorite: "irregardless"

It's not a word! It's just "regardless" that's it.

I had a college professor who said this constantly... and I cringed every time.

Dictionary.com says this about the word:

ir·re·gard·less  adv. Nonstandard

Regardless.

Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

Here's another one that gets me going: humongous. 

I really don't consider myself smart. I know just enough to be dangerous. And I love slang! I think it's fun to use made up words like bling, and fo-shizzle,  and hella. But when someone's trying to sound smart? And uses a word they think has real linguistic clout? That's when I'm ready to throw down. :)

Pet Peeve #124

When someone says WE and they really mean YOU.

For example:

"We really need to check on that... we should call so-and-so and get that confirmed."

Really? WE should do that? You must mean me... since you're telling me what WE should be doing. Don't insult me with the team thing. Just ask me to do it. I'll have much more respect for you. Since you had no intention of doing it yourself.

(This is by no means directed at any ONE person, just a general annoyance - OK JAMIE!? - Mr. Sensitive ;)

When someone asks me how MY weekend was... just so THEY'LL get the question in return. Then I am subjected to hearing about every minute detail of their boring existance.

Hey Missy, how was your weekend?

Nice. You?

We'll Friday night I xxx. Saturday I xxx... then Saturday night I xxx.

Blah Blah Blah. Shut it.
